Individual Learning Plan (ILP) Information
Every school year, students across Kentucky are required to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) starting in sixth grade. The Career Cruising ILP tool is web-based and allows students to begin searching for careers they may be interested in. In the ILP, students are to complete the career matchmaker which is a simple survey asking them their likes and dislikes. From the answers provided in the inventory, the ILP will link careers that the student could be interested in. From this list, students can gather data on those jobs, such as salary, education required, experience required and Universities and Colleges that offer those programs. In addition to that, they can watch videos of people who are involved in these careers to learn more information.
Even though it may seem early to begin thinking about careers, the idea behind the ILP is to get started as early as possible. The best way to be ready for college and a career is to begin planning for one. I encourage parents to get involved with the ILP process. Exploring career options together can be fun and interesting. There are many job paths out there that you may not even know exist.
In addition to researching careers and schools, the ILP is a web-enabled tool that allows students to record and keep their individual:
* Career Goals
* Education Goals
* Assessment Results
* Personal Goals
* Awards
* Recognitions
* Hobbies
* Interests
* Community Service
* Work Experience
* Documents (such as resumes)
* Journals
Students have access to this tool from 6th grade through 12th grade and beyond. Through their ILP, students can:
* Explore Careers
* Research colleges and technical schools
* Find Scholarships
* Research how to pay for college
* Explore military careers
* Create and maintain a resume
* Invite potential employers or colleges to view their ILPs
Both students and parents have usernames and passwords to login. Students’ username and password information was given to them in November when we started their ILPs. Parent’s username and passwords are on cards and were also given out to students at that time, along with an informational letter about ILPs. To login to the ILP, please access the following link: https://www2.careercruising.com/my/login/ilp
Get to know the ILP and feel free to ask me any questions you may have about it. I would be more than happy to help. That is why I am here! J
